I’m planning to reread L.M. Montgomery’s “Emily” novels this year, along with Naomi of Consumed by Ink and other bloggers. Anyone want to join us? We’d love to have company.
Here’s Naomi’s invitation to participate: “An Emily Readalong.”
February: “I am important to myself”: Emily of New Moon (1923)
March: “I have to write”: Emily Climbs (1925)
April: Emily’s Quest (1927)
My “L.M. Montgomery in Nova Scotia” page.
Yay! So glad you’re joining me. 🙂

If my participation (my being male and also being inclined to see “shadows” of hidden meaning in novelists like Montgomery and Austen) would not be disruptive, I’d love to be part of it, I’ve been really interested in LMM ever since I read the Blue Castle many years ago, and I realized that McCullough was responding to lMMs shadows.

Like I told Naomi – I’ve never read the Emily books so this is the perfect excuse. Count me in!

Hah! I JUST reread Emily of New Moon–twice and was considering rereading the rest. I ordered the next one (dunno where my old ones are), and am ready to roll, but I am going in the hospital tomorrow, and don’t know how things will be going, so not sure whether or not I can participate. (Or even what participating means.) Mary

Hi Mary, we’d be glad to have you join us! Some of us will be writing blog posts about the books and talking about them on social media, with the hashtag #ReadEmily, but there’s no official signup process, just a general timeline of one novel per month. If you subscribe to Naomi’s blog (at https://consumedbyink.ca/2017/01/08/an-emily-readalong/), you’ll get updates from her. Please do feel free to participate by blogging and/or commenting on blog posts and/or chatting about the books on social media, as time permits. All best wishes for your stay in hospital.

I re-read all of the Anne books in mid 2016- I wasn’t doing any reading, couldn’t concentrate so, as usual when faced with problems I run to Anne. I’ve probably read Anne of GG 100 times and even after all these years the books are charming and fun and interesting. They’ve grown old much more gracefully than I. 😉
I’ve just ordered the 3 books from half.com for a total of $10.28 (including shipping) and I’m looking forward to reading them with you.

100 times! That’s impressive. So glad you’re joining us to read the Emily books, Dorothy!

I’m still waffling on this because I reread them not too long ago (and am trying to finish some series rather than revisit ones I actually have managed to finish – being a chronic begin-series reader). But LMM is always a temptation. Hmmmm. Either way, enjoy!

I can certainly understand the temptation of beginning a new series or of rereading LMM. Of course we’d love to have you join us, if you have time!

For those who like to read electronically, I quickly found, via Google, free online versions of all three of the Emily novels at Project Gutenberg Australia, which I’ve bookmarked and am ready to go on my first time reading them all.

I wish I read this post earlier – February is already running away with me! I finished the Anne series last year and already have the three Emily books. I hadn’t thought about starting them so soon but would be a pity to miss the opportunity of joining in. No guarantees I’ll manage the time scale but I’ll give it a go!

And February is a short month, too! I totally understand your concerns about time, Sandra. I managed to keep up with part of the schedule for the Green Gables Readalong I participated in a couple of years ago, but not all of it. I’m hoping it will be a bit easier to keep up with the Emily books, since there are just three of them. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the series whenever you get a chance to read it!
